Celebrity News:

IT's official. Rove McManus is Australia's most annoying celebrity.

The Gold Logie-winning variety show host pipped Australian Idol's Kyle Sandilands in a Sunday Herald Sun online TV poll that attracted almost 4000 votes.

Sandilands, who was poll "favourite", had a tongue-in-cheek response to the result: "I'm extremely disappointed to be beaten again by Rove McManus. First the Logie, second this poll."

McManus, who was unavailable for comment, was a surprise winner, though he came fifth in the inaugural annoying personality poll held 18 months ago.

He scored only 12 per cent of the latest vote, beating Sandilands on 9 per cent, Sunrise host David Koch (7 per cent), Footy Show star Sam Newman (5 per cent) and former Nine CEO Eddie McGuire (4 per cent).

Last year's runner-up, Gretel Killeen, who has been replaced on Big Brother by Sandilands, came in sixth.

Today Tonight's Anna Coren, Bert Newton, Andrew O'Keefe and Daryl Somers rounded out the top 10 but many stars attracted votes.

David Castran, of the research firm Audience Development Australia, said he was surprised by McManus's win.

"In the research we do, he would be nowhere near the top in terms of negative (feelings)," he said.

But he said the fact that McManus was a TV veteran worked against him.

"It's like any relationship. Over time, you get to know someone better and you start to see the negatives," he said.

Castran said McManus should take the result as a compliment.

"If you're a big star, more negative comes to you because you are known by more people," he said.
